World Order Lab's Senior Program Associate, Partnership & Deputy Chair of Women Empowerment Working Group Yutathavy Chhoeun participated in the Local Conference of Youth Cambodia 2026, under the theme “Youth Driving Climate Resilience for a Sustainable Future,” held in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Organized by the Youth Council for Climate Action of Cambodia, and supported by the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Cambodia, as well as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Cambodia, the conference brought together more than 200 young climate leaders, government officials, policymakers, and development partners to strengthen youth participation in Cambodia’s climate agenda and support the implementation of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0.

The conference featured discussions on climate governance, sustainable energy transition, climate adaptation, health and WASH, biodiversity conservation, and economic resilience, with participants developing recommendations for the Cambodia Youth Statement on Climate Action. The statement will contribute to national climate discussions and support Cambodian youth engagement in regional and global processes, including COY21 and COP31.

What are Vy's key takeaways and observations from the conference?

"LCOY Cambodia 2026 demonstrated that youth are not only participants in climate action, but important contributors to shaping Cambodia’s climate policies and solutions. The event strengthened the connection between grassroots youth perspectives, national climate priorities and global processes, with the Cambodia Youth Statement providing a concrete pathway for youth recommendations to inform climate action and NDC 3.0 implementation." --- Yutathavy Chhoeun, Senior Program Associate, Partnership & Deputy Chair of Women Empowerment Working Group

World Order Lab extends its appreciation to the organizers, partners, and participants for providing an important platform for youth to contribute to climate policymaking and resilience-building, and looks forward to supporting initiatives that strengthen meaningful youth participation in shaping a sustainable and resilient Cambodia and wider Southeast Asia.
