World Order Lab Participates in the Beyond COP Youth Policy Workshop
World Order Lab's Analyst (Southeast Asia Desk) & Interim Chair of Climate Action Working Group Muhamad Ferdy Firmansyah participated in the "Beyond COP Youth Policy Workshop: Policy Design for a Just and Inclusive Critical Minerals for Energy Transition Governance," held in Jakarta on July 4-5, 2026.
Convened by the ASEAN Youth Forum and implemented by the Indonesia Youth Coalition to Climate Actions, the workshop brought together young leaders, researchers, practitioners, and climate advocates from across Indonesia to strengthen youth engagement in the governance of critical energy transition minerals and their role in advancing a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition.
The workshop featured senior researchers, government representatives, and industry practitioners, while equipping participants with practical skills in policy analysis, design, and advocacy. As a key outcome, participants will co-author a policy report and contribute to advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening youth perspectives in Indonesia's critical minerals and energy transition policies.
What are Ferdy's key takeaways and reflections from the workshop?
"What stood out to me most was that critical minerals are indispensable to the energy transition, but their governance should go beyond economic growth. It must also prioritize justice, inclusivity, and the rights of vulnerable communities directly affected by mining and resource exploration.
