Safna Putri Purba is Senior Analyst with the Middle East & North Africa Desk at World Order Lab. She is an emerging researcher specializing in International Relations, with a focus on Middle Eastern politics, energy security, and international political economy. Her research explores the intersection of geopolitics, foreign policy, sustainable development, and environmental security, particularly in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific.
Safna holds Master of Science in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from the Graduate School of Strategic and Global Studies, Universitas Indonesia, where she was awarded the Indonesian Government's Beasiswa Unggulan scholarship and graduated with distinction. She also holds Bachelor's Degree from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro.
Previously, Safna completed internships at the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (2022), the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (2021), and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (2021). During these roles, she supported research, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and administrative coordination across public policy and governance initiatives.
Subsequently, she continued her professional journey as a Research Assistant at Center for Strategic Policy Studies Universitas Indonesia (2023-2025), a Policy Fellow at Indonesia Institute of Education Reform (2025), and a Project Lead at Indonesia Syiar Network (2025-2026). From faith-driven initiatives to policy research and community-based projects, her dedication spans diverse domains, shaping a multidimensional perspective that is both inclusive and deeply informed by varied social, academic, and institutional experiences.
Safna's research interests focus on geopolitics, particularly the political and security dynamics of the Middle East, as well as international and domestic energy security. She is especially interested in energy geopolitics, foreign policy, regional security, and the intersection between energy transition and sustainable development. Her work seeks to examine how geopolitical developments shape energy governance and security at both the regional and global levels.
Safna has presented her research on Middle East energy geopolitics at the International Conference on Strategic and Global Studies in Nanchang, China. She continues to contribute to academic discussions and policy-oriented research on international relations, strategic affairs, and energy governance through publications, conferences, and collaborative research initiatives.
