Senior Analyst, East Asia Desk & Malaysia Liaison Officer

Kevin Tan Wei Rong is Senior Analyst with the East Asia desk Desk & Malaysia Liaison Officer at World Order Lab, where he focuses in national security, defense policy, East Asian security dynamics, regional geostrategy, and disaster management across Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. He previously served as the youth think-tank's Senior Program Associate before transitioning to an analytical role.

Kevin is currently a Master of Arts in Strategic and Defence Studies Student at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. He holds Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Studies from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. His academic perspective is grounded in empirical research, highlighted by his leadership of a field initiative investigating the localized socio-economic and security impacts of the Baleh Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Iban longhouse community in Nanga Antawau, Sarawak.

Complementing his research experience, he previously served as a Research Intern with the Contemporary Security Cluster at the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS). In this role, he conducted targeted policy analysis on the Taiwan's New Southbound Policy.

Beyond his security research, Kevin brings significant administrative and project management expertise from his executive role at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology (Penang Branch), where he managed international academic exchanges and institutional partnerships. He also maintains a strong commitment to civic service and operational emergency management. As Officer-in-Charge of Disaster Management and Ambulance Services for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society for the Penang State Seberang Perai Utara District, he actively directs frontline disaster response operations and community health services.
